CARRANOR HUNT & POLO CLUB
2011 Historic Perrysburg Renovation Award
The Carranor Hunt & Polo Club, founded in 1923, has evolved on the grounds of the original 1848 Blinn Farm, into one of the most unique and desired hospitality venues in the region. Designed to expand and improve the dining and entertainment features of the private Club in 2007, the Founders Hall addition includes a 1,800 SF Dining Room, 1,000 SF Formal Back Entry Hall, and 2,800 SF Terrace, vehicular drop-off, and entry Pergola. The new expansion respects the historic character of the original architecture while transforming the back of the Club into a Garden Orangery inspired courtyard space. Features and materials recall the original transom French doors, large fireplace chimney, and white wood trim detailing. The newly graded accessible points and vehicular drop-off, Pergola entranceway, and dining Terrace are back-dropped by repetitive French doors, creating an active indoor-outdoor connection with surrounding views toward the expansive fields.
The original early 19th century Milk House structure was renovated in 2011, providing a 550 SF dining and bar space with a new 500 SF service and storage connector to the Founders Dining room. Original features of the Club’s Aiken Bar such as the white trim wainscot bench and mahogany bar-top were inspiration to define the pub-like atmosphere. Wainscoting was built from a reclaimed 90 foot tall Pine tree removed for the addition link. The Milk House bar window bay serves directly outdoors with an expansion to include a stonewalled seating area connected to the terrace.
The organization of the additions allows for simultaneous events, a tented terrace option, and convenient access throughout the Club facilities and grounds for staff operations, and member/guest use and mobility.
